At Dynamo Freight, our team is made up of talented individuals who come from a variety of backgrounds from around the country. We sat down with Drew Myers, the Manager of Marketing and Recruiting, to learn more about how his background led to beginning his career at Dynamo.
Where did you go to school and what did you study?
I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management – I also graduated with a minor in Fine Art. During my time in school, I dedicated my time heavily to the arts and my internship. I helped manage the art gallery on campus, that internship set me up in ways that you would never even imagine. My mentor in college really had my back in everything that I’ve ever done and I am so thankful to have had the opportunity.
How did you first hear about Dynamo?
I became involved with the company pretty early on with creating the logo and all of the initial marketing materials that they were able to use to really get their name and reputation out there with a solid base. I was recruited to work full-time for the company at the end of 2021.
How did you become interested in going into the logistics industry?
My past positions have ultimately led me to where I am today. I don’t come from a logistics background, but instead I come from a diverse background that helped me attain the skills that allow me to flourish in this role. I’m a fairly creative, outgoing and organized person with an open mind that allows me to learn and adapt to all areas of work (and life in general.)
What’s your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part about working at Dynamo is the fact that we are building this company from the ground up. I think that it is an absolute blast talking to people, learning new things, adapting new skills and excelling at what we’re trying to accomplish. I’m eager to get myself set up on some college campuses in the Pittsburgh area next year to start recruiting for these upcoming positions as the company grows.
What keeps you at Dynamo?
Growth! We are growing at such a rapid rate, and I think that it’s amazing to compare where we were when I signed on full-time to where we are now, which was only about 6 months ago. Dynamo has some of the best people in all areas of running a business working here, and we’re only getting better as we learn and grow.
If you could go back in time and tell yourself one thing about your job search, what would it be?
Hmm, I think that if I had the ability to go back in time and tell myself one thing about my job search, it would be to always be yourself. There is no sense in trying to become something that you are not. Always be yourself and you will no doubt succeed in whatever you are set out to accomplish.
For someone about to start a career in sales and logistics, what would you tell them?
I don’t work in sales, but I do the onboarding for the sales and logistics roles. I always tell all the new hires to be patient, listen to whoever is training you and that communication is the key to success.
