At Dynamo Freight, our team is made up of talented individuals who come from a variety of backgrounds from around the country. We sat down with Sean Malloy, our Senior Software Engineer, to learn more about how his background led to beginning his career at Dynamo and what got him started in tech.
My interest in programming first sparked in middle school while playing a game called Runescape. I discovered an online tool that allowed me to automate repetitive tasks by dragging logic blocks and images together. The thrill of seeing something I built myself running and helping me out really hooked me, and that feeling has stayed with me ever since.
My favorite part of the job is when we roll out something new to our users. Sure, building stuff is fun on its own, but the real reward is seeing how it makes a positive impact on the end user’s day-to-day tasks and experience. That’s always the best part for me!
What keeps me sticking around at Dynamo is the chance to learn and grow fast. It’s not every day you find a role where you can tackle aspects of technology, strategy, and working with other people – all in one role!
Make a monumental effort to solve things yourself in your early career. It takes much more time, but you’ll end up with a much deeper understanding of everything surrounding that problem. What usually seems like useless knowledge really comes in handy when you’re connecting the dots on something new.
I’ve always been fascinated by technology! However, after graduating, I felt I wasn’t adequately prepared for the cybersecurity career that I wanted. My interests leaned more towards coding rather than the seemingly slower pace of security. As a result, I made a slight shift and attended a coding bootcamp. The rest is history!
I speak 3 languages!
In my mind, our company culture can be summarized as centering around: fluidity, chaotic productivity and teamwork.
