Employee Spotlight | Jacob Collas

Where did you go to school and what did you study?

I was a history major at California University of Pennsylvania now known as Penn West California.

How did you first hear about Dynamo?

I had prior experience in logistics and was looking for another exciting challenge. I saw an open position to work here on Indeed and jumped at the opportunity.

How did you become interested in going into the logistics industry?

I have always been fascinated in looking at trucks on the highway. I would always try to guess where they were coming from and where they were going. I would try to guess what product they were moving. This led me to start out my journey by working in a warehouse for Giant Eagle. This led to a bigger fascination with the number of things that take place behind the scenes to get products shipped across the world.

What’s your favorite part of your job?

I love interacting with our carriers and having the unique opportunity to learn more about them. It is rewarding to get to know more about these carriers and build a cohesive relationship to keep our freight running smoothly.

What keeps you at Dynamo?

I love the work and I love the people I work with. Dynamo made it very easy to become a part of the team. The group of people we have working here makes it easy for anyone to grow, learn, and have success in this industry.

If you could go back in time and tell yourself one thing about your job search, what would it be?

Do not overthink it! The right job will find you. When Dynamo called I knew I had found my new home. You will have plenty of opportunities to interview and grow. You just have to be patient until you find the perfect match.

For someone about to start a career in sales and logistics, what would you tell them?

It is not easy! Like everything else it takes patience and practice to learn a new skill. The more time you invest in learning about what you are selling, the more success you will have selling it! You cannot expect to be able to sell something you do not know anything about! Take the time out of your day to do research on the customer and the product they want moved.

What experiences led you to start your career in logistics?

I was a warehouse selector for Giant Eagle. I enjoyed seeing the intricacy of how the product gets from manufacturer to the distribution center to the stores!

What’s one thing people don’t know about you that they would be surprised to find out?

In 8th grade I won an essay contest and was given the opportunity to lay the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers in Washington DC.

How would you describe the company culture at Dynamo Freight?

Dynamo has a great environment. It is full of people who want to be successful and want to help you be successful – at Dynamo it is a team first mentality. If we want to be successful we need to work as a team. This helps everyone to accomplish the goals we put forward for ourselves as well as the team.

What is the most memorable change that has happened at Dynamo Freight in your time with the company?

So far there has not been too much change during my time here, the most change I have noticed is that we keep finding unique new ways to utilize our office space!
